Which quarterback appeared on the Madden NFL 09 cover in a Packers uniform?

Which quarterback appeared on the Madden NFL 09 cover in a Packers uniform? Brett Favre. The longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback was the cover athlete, and the original packaging showed him wearing Green Bay’s uniform.

Favre was revealed as the Madden NFL 09 cover athlete on April 23, 2008, during The Late Show with David Letterman. At that point, he was identified with the Packers, where he had spent most of his career and established himself as one of the era’s defining quarterbacks.

The cover became unusual when Favre unretired and was traded to the New York Jets roughly five days before the game’s North American release. EA initially shipped copies showing him in a Packers uniform, then offered a downloadable alternative cover depicting him as a Jet.

That roster change explains why some players remember Madden NFL 09 with Favre in a Jets uniform. The question specifically asks about the Packers-uniform cover, making Favre the single canonical answer. Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers were not the game’s cover athlete.
