Which pseudonymous author was revealed to be J.K. Rowling in 2013?

The story behind the answer

Robert Galbraith was the pseudonymous author revealed to be J.K. Rowling in 2013.

Rowling used the name for The Cuckoo’s Calling, a crime novel published in April 2013. The book introduced private investigator Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. It initially attracted attention as a debut novel by an apparently unknown writer.

The identity became public in July 2013 after a linguistic analysis and subsequent reporting connected Galbraith with Rowling. Rowling confirmed the revelation. She said that publishing under another name had allowed her to work without the expectations attached to Harry Potter.

Robert Galbraith is sometimes confused with Richard Bachman, the pseudonym used by Stephen King, or with John le Carré, whose real name was David Cornwell. Those are separate author identities. Rowling continued the Strike series under the Galbraith name.
