Which pseudonym did J.K. Rowling use for her 2012 adult novel The Casual Vacancy?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling used her established name, J.K. Rowling, for The Casual Vacancy.

Published in 2012, The Casual Vacancy was Rowling’s first novel for adults after the Harry Potter series. It is set in the fictional English village of Pagford, where the sudden death of parish councillor Barry Fairbrother creates a vacant seat and exposes conflicts involving class, poverty, addiction, and local politics.

The book is often confused with Rowling’s later crime novels, which were initially published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The Casual Vacancy was not published under that name. Its title refers to the political vacancy created by Fairbrother’s death.

The novel was released simultaneously in several markets and became a major international bestseller. In 2015, the BBC and HBO adapted it as a three-part television miniseries. The adaptation starred Michael Gambon, Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan, and Julia McKenzie.
