Hull City won 2–0 at home against Manchester United in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
The fixture was Hull’s first Premier League match after promotion and was played at the MKM Stadium on 22 August 2026. The home victory gave Hull an ideal start to their return to the division.
Hull had been promoted alongside Coventry City and Ipswich Town. Their nine-year absence was shorter than Coventry’s 25-year wait but longer than Ipswich’s one-year absence. All three promoted clubs therefore had different recent histories in the top flight.
Manchester United’s defeat contrasted with their later opening-round recovery: they beat Ipswich Town 5–2 in their next league match. That later scoreline should not be substituted for Hull’s 2–0 opening-weekend win.
