Which player kicked the winning goal in the 1970 VFL Grand Final between Carlton and Collingwood?

The story behind the answer

Alex Jesaulenko kicked the winning goal in the 1970 VFL Grand Final between Carlton and Collingwood.

Carlton and Collingwood met before a record crowd of 121,696 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 26 September 1970. Collingwood led by 44 points at half-time, but Carlton produced one of the most famous comebacks in VFL history. The Blues eventually won 17.9 (111) to 14.17 (101).

Jesaulenko’s goal in the final quarter helped Carlton move in front and secure the premiership. He was a powerful centre half-forward and later became Carlton’s premiership captain-coach. The match also featured a famous mark by Jesaulenko, although the phrase “Jesaulenko, you beauty!” became associated with his spectacular leap rather than with the winning goal itself.

Wayne Harmes won the Norm Smith Medal for his influential performance. The game remains a standard reference point when discussing Grand Final comebacks.
