Cars 2 is the Pixar Cars film set partly in Japan, Italy, and England.
The story follows Mater and Lightning McQueen as they travel to the World Grand Prix. The race visits Tokyo, Porto Corso, and London, giving the sequel a broader international setting than the first film’s largely American road-story environment.
Cars 2 combines the World Grand Prix with a spy thriller involving alternative fuel technology, secret agents, and an attempt to discredit the race’s fuel source. Mater becomes involved after Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell mistake him for an undercover operative.
The film was directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. Its international locations and espionage plot make it notably different in tone from Cars and Cars 3, which focus more heavily on Lightning’s racing career.
