J.K. Rowling launched Pottermore in 2011 as an official online Harry Potter reading platform and website.
Pottermore was announced in June 2011 and opened to the public in 2012 after an early-access period. It offered interactive features based on the Harry Potter books, including digital reading experiences, sorting, and new writing by Rowling about the wizarding world.
The project also became an important route for selling Harry Potter e-books and digital audiobooks. Rowling used the platform to publish background material that was not included in the original novels, giving readers additional information about magical subjects and characters.
In 2019, Pottermore was replaced as the main brand by WizardingWorld.com, now generally styled as Wizarding World. That later name is why readers sometimes give Wizarding World as the answer, but the 2011 platform was Pottermore.
