Which online Need for Speed game went offline on July 14, 2015?

The story behind the answer

Need for Speed: World went offline on July 14, 2015.

World was Electronic Arts’ free-to-play massively multiplayer Need for Speed game for Windows. It launched worldwide on July 27, 2010, after a limited beta test in Taiwan, and combined open-world driving with police chases, customization, and online events. Its map drew heavily on Rockport from Most Wanted and Palmont from Carbon.

EA announced the closure on April 15, 2015, saying the game no longer met the company’s standards for the franchise. The official servers were disabled at 16:00 GMT on July 14. This date refers to the original EA service, not later fan-run projects that attempted to preserve the game through unofficial servers.

A common mix-up is confusing World with Need for Speed: No Limits, which launched in 2015 as a mobile game and remained a separate title. World was also not an offline game converted into an online one; its core progression and services depended on EA’s servers.
