Which NFL quarterback was on the cover of Madden NFL 11?

The story behind the answer

Drew Brees was the quarterback on the cover of Madden NFL 11.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback won a fan vote to become the cover athlete for Madden NFL 11, which EA Sports released in 2010. Brees had just led the Saints to a 31–17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, where he was named Super Bowl MVP, making him a natural choice for the cover.

This was the first time Madden fans voted to select the cover athlete. Brees defeated fellow finalists including San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith, Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen, and Indianapolis receiver Reggie Wayne. The public vote gave the cover selection an unusually direct connection to the series’ audience.

Madden NFL 11 introduced features such as GameFlow, which streamlined play-calling, and Online Team Play. Brees’ appearance is sometimes confused with other prominent Madden cover quarterbacks, including Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but neither was the Madden NFL 11 cover athlete. The cover featured Brees in his Saints uniform after the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship.
