Which New York Giants wide receiver beat Rob Gronkowski for the Madden NFL 16 cover?

The story behind the answer

Odell Beckham Jr. was the New York Giants wide receiver who beat Rob Gronkowski for the Madden NFL 16 cover.

For Madden NFL 16, EA changed the voting system instead of using a traditional bracket. Fans voted through collectible cards in Madden NFL Mobile and through Ultimate Team on consoles. Four finalists were announced in May 2015: Beckham, Gronkowski, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, and Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown.

Beckham and Gronkowski became the final two candidates, and Beckham won the vote on May 13, 2015. His selection followed a spectacular rookie season in which his one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys became one of the NFL’s most recognizable plays. Madden NFL 16 launched on August 25, 2015, for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Antonio Brown and Julio Jones were finalists or major stars in the same era, but neither won this cover.
