Which Need for Speed game was released only for Wii and Nintendo DS?

The story behind the answer

Need for Speed: Nitro was released only for Wii and Nintendo DS.

Released in 2009, Nitro was designed as a more accessible, arcade-focused entry in the Need for Speed series. EA Montreal developed the Wii version, while Firebrand Games developed the Nintendo DS version. Although both carried the Nitro name, the handheld edition was built separately and used the DS’s distinctive hardware and controls.

The game emphasized fast races, police pursuits, exaggerated visuals, and a colorful customization system called “Own It.” Players could alter car appearances with colors, graffiti, and tags, while style points rewarded actions such as drafting and powersliding. The Wii version supported up to four local players in some modes.

Nitro is often confused with ProStreet, Undercover, or Shift because those games also appeared on some Nintendo hardware. Nitro, however, was the first Need for Speed title released exclusively for Nintendo platforms. An enhanced DS edition, Need for Speed: Nitro-X, later appeared as a DSiWare download in 2010.
