Tyronn Lue led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first NBA championship in 2016.
Lue became Cleveland's head coach midway through the 2015–16 season after the Cavaliers dismissed David Blatt in January 2016. Although Blatt had coached part of that campaign, Lue was the head coach who directed the team through its championship playoff run.
The Cavaliers faced the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals and fell behind three games to one. Cleveland then won three straight games, becoming the first team to overcome a 3–1 deficit in the NBA Finals. The decisive Game 7 ended 93–89 in Oakland, giving Cleveland its first NBA title.
LeBron James won Finals MVP after a historic series, while Kyrie Irving hit the go-ahead three-pointer late in Game 7. David Blatt is the main potential mix-up because he began the season as coach, but Lue coached the championship finish.
