Canada won the first Olympic mixed doubles curling gold medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Canada's Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris defeated Switzerland's Jenny Perret and Martin Rios 10–3 in the final. Norway won bronze after defeating the Olympic Athletes from Russia. The match established the first Olympic champions in mixed doubles curling.
Mixed doubles differs from the traditional format because each team has two players, one woman and one man. Teams begin with stones already placed on the sheet, and each side throws five stones per end. The shorter format produces faster games and rewards precise placement and aggressive shot-making.
Canada had previously won Olympic medals in conventional men's and women's curling. The mixed doubles title broadened the country's curling success and helped make the new discipline a regular part of the Winter Games programme.
