Which MLB manager won four consecutive World Series with the Yankees (1936–1939)?

The story behind the answer

Joe McCarthy won four consecutive World Series with the New York Yankees from 1936 through 1939.

McCarthy became the Yankees’ manager in 1931 after a successful run with the Chicago Cubs. His Yankees teams combined disciplined pitching, powerful hitting, and strong defense, winning seven American League pennants in eight seasons from 1936 through 1943.

The four-title streak began with victories over the New York Giants in 1936 and continued against the Giants in 1937, the Chicago Cubs in 1938, and the Cincinnati Reds in 1939. McCarthy’s teams won each of those Series, making him one of baseball’s defining dynasty builders.

A common mix-up is Casey Stengel, who managed the Yankees to five consecutive pennants and five World Series titles from 1949 through 1953. McCarthy’s achievement came earlier, during the club’s first great championship era, when stars included Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Bill Dickey.
