Which mascot did Finnie replace as Glasgow's Commonwealth Games mascot?

The story behind the answer

Which mascot did Finnie replace as Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games mascot? Finnie replaced Clyde.

Clyde was the mascot of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which were also held in Glasgow. He was designed as an anthropomorphic thistle, Scotland’s floral emblem, and his name referred to the River Clyde running through the city.

Finnie, unveiled in July 2025, is a unicorn—the national animal of Scotland. Her name comes from Glasgow’s Finnieston Crane, while her traffic-cone horn references the famous cone placed on the Duke of Wellington statue. A common mix-up is confusing Clyde with Perry, the multicoloured bull used for Birmingham 2022, or Borobi, the koala mascot of Gold Coast 2018.
