Which manager led Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years in 2020?

The story behind the answer

Jürgen Klopp led Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years in 2020.

Klopp became Liverpool manager in October 2015 and gradually rebuilt the club into a major force. His team reached the 2018 Champions League final, won the 2019 Champions League, and then carried that momentum into an extraordinary 2019–20 league campaign.

Liverpool won their first six league matches and built a commanding lead over Manchester City. They eventually clinched the title on June 25, 2020, when Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2–1. Liverpool had seven matches remaining and finished the season with 99 points.

The championship was Liverpool’s 19th English top-flight title but its first in the Premier League era. The 30-year wait stretched back to the 1989–90 First Division season. Klopp is sometimes confused with Kenny Dalglish, who managed Liverpool’s previous league title-winning team, but Klopp delivered the club’s first success after the competition was renamed the Premier League.
