Which manager led Liverpool to the 2019 UEFA Champions League title?

The story behind the answer

Jürgen Klopp led Liverpool to the 2019 UEFA Champions League title.

Klopp became Liverpool manager in October 2015 after building his reputation with Borussia Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles and reached the 2013 Champions League final. At Liverpool, he developed an energetic, pressing-oriented team built around players including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool lost the 2018 Champions League final to Real Madrid, but returned to the final one year later. On June 1, 2019, Klopp’s side defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2–0 in Madrid. Salah scored from an early penalty, and Divock Origi added the second goal late in the match.

The triumph was Liverpool’s sixth European Cup or Champions League title. It was Klopp’s first Champions League victory as a manager, after earlier final defeats with Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and Liverpool in 2018. A neighbouring fact often confused with this win is Liverpool’s 2020 Premier League title, also achieved under Klopp.
