Which London railway station inspired the Harry Potter Platform 9¾ sign?
Answer
King’s Cross Station
Answer
King’s Cross Station
King’s Cross Station inspired the Harry Potter Platform 9¾ sign.
In the novels, students board the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9¾ at London’s King’s Cross station. The platform is fictional, but the station is real and is one of the major railway terminals serving London.
The books describe a barrier between platforms 9 and 10. At the actual station, platforms 9 and 10 are separated by railway tracks, so the location could not literally match the novel’s description. A Platform 9¾ shop and photo opportunity were later installed at King’s Cross for visitors.
The station is often confused with St Pancras, its famous neighboring terminal. The exterior used in some film shots resembles St Pancras, but the story’s railway departure point and the visitor attraction are associated with King’s Cross.
