Which London railway station contains the fictional Platform 9¾ from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books?

The story behind the answer

King’s Cross Station contains the fictional Platform 9¾ from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books.

In the novels, young witches and wizards reach the Hogwarts Express by passing through the barrier between platforms 9 and 10 at King’s Cross. The train then travels to Hogsmeade, the station serving Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The real station is one of London’s major railway terminals and serves routes to northern England and Scotland. Because the actual tracks between platforms 9 and 10 are separated by railway lines, film productions used a different location for some platform scenes, including nearby Platform 4 and 5 areas.

King’s Cross became a major Harry Potter visitor attraction. A trolley sign marking Platform 9¾ was installed for fans, and the station has hosted a Harry Potter shop beside the attraction. The fictional platform is not a normal passenger platform.
