Liechtenstein is a double-landlocked country bordered only by Austria and Switzerland.
A double-landlocked country is one whose surrounding neighbors are themselves landlocked. Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan are the only two sovereign states generally classified this way. Liechtenstein is the smaller of the pair and lies in the Alps along the Rhine Valley.
The principality covers roughly 160 square kilometres, with Vaduz as its capital and seat of government. It has been closely connected politically and economically with Switzerland, including through a customs and currency union, while its eastern border is with Austria.
Liechtenstein is sometimes mistaken for Luxembourg because both are small European monarchies. Luxembourg, however, borders Belgium, France, and Germany and is merely landlocked, not double-landlocked.
