Moldova has Mileștii Mici, home to the world’s largest wine cellar by number of bottles.
Mileștii Mici is an underground wine complex south of Moldova’s capital, Chișinău. It occupies former limestone mining galleries, whose stable temperature and humidity create suitable conditions for storing wine. The tunnels extend for roughly 200 kilometres, although only part is used for wine production and storage.
The collection is recorded by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest wine collection by number of bottles. The cellar contains millions of bottles, including bottles dating from the Soviet period and later Moldovan production.
Moldova’s wine tradition is ancient, and vineyards remain central to its agriculture and cultural identity. Visitors often confuse Mileștii Mici with Cricova, another famous underground Moldovan winery; both use limestone tunnels, but they are separate complexes.
