Malawi is the landlocked country that contains Lake Malawi, also called Lake Nyasa.
Lake Malawi occupies much of Malawi’s eastern border and is one of Africa’s Great Lakes. It is famous for exceptionally diverse freshwater fish, especially cichlids, many of which are found nowhere else. The lake is also shared by Tanzania and Mozambique.
Malawi is a southeastern African country bordered by Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia. Its capital is Lilongwe, while Blantyre is an important commercial centre. The country is sometimes called the “Warm Heart of Africa,” a nickname associated with its people and welcoming reputation.
The lake’s name can cause confusion because Malawi uses “Lake Malawi,” Tanzania commonly uses “Lake Nyasa,” and Mozambique uses “Lago Niassa.” These names refer to the same large lake.
