Andorra contains Andorra la Vella, Europe’s highest capital city by elevation.
Andorra is a small landlocked microstate in the eastern Pyrenees, between France and Spain. Its capital, Andorra la Vella, sits at roughly 1,023 metres above sea level, making it the highest national capital in Europe by elevation.
The country’s name means “the Principality of Andorra,” and it has a distinctive dual-head-of-state arrangement: the Bishop of Urgell and the President of France serve as co-princes. Catalan is the official language, another feature that distinguishes Andorra from its larger neighbors.
Andorra is often confused with San Marino or Liechtenstein because all three are small European states, but only Andorra lies in the Pyrenees and has Andorra la Vella as its capital.
