Which J.K. Rowling screenplay introduced the wizard Newt Scamander in 2016?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s 2016 screenplay Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them introduced the wizard Newt Scamander.

The film is set decades before the Harry Potter story and follows Newt, a magizoologist carrying a case filled with magical creatures. Eddie Redmayne portrays Newt Scamander, while the story begins in New York City in 1926.

Rowling wrote the screenplay, making it her screenwriting debut. The title comes from a Hogwarts textbook credited in the Harry Potter universe to Newt Scamander. The companion book published in 2001 was presented as a school text and was not originally a narrative novel about Newt’s adventures.

The 2016 film became the first entry in a planned prequel series. Its later films are The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore, both continuing the earlier wizarding-world timeline.
