Which J.K. Rowling novel features the fictional detective Cormoran Strike investigating a model’s death?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s novel The Cuckoo’s Calling features Cormoran Strike investigating a model’s death.

The book introduces Strike, a private investigator and former military policeman, after supermodel Lula Landry falls from the balcony of her London apartment. The police treat the death as a suicide, but Lula’s brother hires Strike because he believes that conclusion is wrong. Robin Ellacott becomes Strike’s temporary secretary and an important investigative partner.

The novel was published in 2013 under Rowling’s pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Its authorship was initially kept secret, and Rowling’s identity became public after linguistic analysis and other reporting linked her to the book. The revelation connected the crime novel to Rowling but did not change its fictional author name.

The Cuckoo’s Calling began the Cormoran Strike series. The later books include The Silkworm, Career of Evil, Lethal White, Troubled Blood, The Ink Black Heart, and The Running Grave. The television adaptation is titled Strike.
