Which J.K. Rowling book presents wizarding fairy tales narrated by Albus Dumbledore?

The story behind the answer

The Tales of Beedle the Bard presents wizarding fairy tales narrated in notes by Albus Dumbledore. J.K. Rowling published the collection in 2007 as a companion work to the Harry Potter series.

The book contains five tales: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and “The Tale of the Three Brothers.” The last story is especially important to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Within the fictional world, Hermione receives Dumbledore’s copy after his death. Her translation and Dumbledore’s commentary frame the tales for readers and connect them to wizarding history and attitudes toward magic.

Rowling originally produced seven handwritten copies of the collection, giving six to people closely connected with the books and auctioning one for charity. A commercially printed edition followed, with proceeds supporting the Children’s High Level Group, later known as Lumos.
