Which J. K. Rowling book was published under the name Robert Galbraith in 2013?

The story behind the answer

The Cuckoo’s Calling was published under the name Robert Galbraith in 2013.

The novel introduces private investigator Cormoran Strike, a former military policeman who investigates the death of model Lula Landry in London. Robin Ellacott becomes his temporary secretary and later an important investigative partner. The book combines a murder mystery with character-driven detective fiction.

It was initially presented as the debut novel of Robert Galbraith. Rowling’s authorship was revealed later in 2013 after a linguistic analysis and subsequent reporting identified her as the writer. Rowling continued using the Galbraith name for the Cormoran Strike series.

The book is often confused with The Silkworm, which is the second Strike novel, published in 2014. Career of Evil and Lethal White are later entries. Rowling’s use of a pseudonym also differs from her adult fantasy and general-fiction publishing under her own name.
