Which item summons Pokémon to assist the user in battle?

The story behind the answer

A Poké Ball summons a Pokémon to assist the user in Super Smash Bros.

When thrown or activated, the Poké Ball opens and releases a Pokémon selected by the game. That Pokémon then uses an ability or attack on the battlefield, often affecting opponents while generally helping the player who released it. The exact result depends on the Pokémon that appears, so the item combines luck with tactical timing.

Poké Balls connect Smash’s crossover combat directly to the Pokémon series. They have appeared throughout the Super Smash Bros. series, with the selection of summonable Pokémon expanding and changing between installments. Some Pokémon create hazards, launch attacks, or disrupt movement rather than simply fighting as ordinary playable characters.

Assist Trophies perform a similar summoning role, but they call characters and entities from many different game series, not Pokémon specifically. A Smash Ball is instead associated with unlocking a fighter’s Final Smash, while the Dragoon is a multi-part weapon assembled from separate pieces.
