Which Hogwarts position does J.K. Rowling’s character Harry Potter play in Quidditch?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter plays Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

The Seeker’s main task is to catch the Golden Snitch, a small, fast ball whose capture usually ends the match and awards 150 points. Harry’s exceptional flying ability and quick reactions make him especially effective in this position, beginning with his first Hogwarts team selection in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

A Quidditch team also includes three Chasers, two Beaters, and a Keeper. Chasers handle the Quaffle and score through the hoops, Beaters use bats to redirect Bludgers, and the Keeper protects the team’s goal hoops. These roles are distinct, so “Seeker” is not simply another name for a team captain.

Harry’s position is central to several matches and plot developments. The sport’s rules and vocabulary were invented for the novels, although real-world versions of Quidditch, now often called quadball, have also developed.
