Luna is introduced in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as a student one year below Harry. She is known for her unusual ideas, dreamy manner, and willingness to believe possibilities that other students dismiss. Despite being mocked by some classmates, Luna proves loyal, courageous, and perceptive.
Ravenclaw is one of Hogwarts’ four houses, traditionally associated with intelligence, creativity, learning, and wit. Its founder is Rowena Ravenclaw. Luna’s individuality fits the house’s broad ideals, although Rowling’s books show that house membership is not a complete definition of a person’s character.
A common mix-up is to place Luna in Gryffindor because she fights alongside Harry and the resistance at Hogwarts. She does participate in major battles and becomes a member of Dumbledore’s Army, but the Sorting Hat places her in Ravenclaw. Her connection to the house is also important in the final book, when Harry seeks information about its lost diadem.
