Which Hogwarts house does J.K. Rowling identify as her favorite?

J.K. Rowling identifies Hufflepuff as her favorite Hogwarts house.

Hufflepuff is one of the four houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its founder is Helga Hufflepuff, and the house is associated with values including hard work, loyalty, patience, fairness, and dedication.

Rowling has expressed particular affection for Hufflepuff and has described herself as a Hufflepuff in public comments. This can surprise readers because Harry, Ron, and Hermione belong to Gryffindor, the house most strongly associated with the main heroes.

Hufflepuff is sometimes treated as comic relief in discussions of the series, but the books present important Hufflepuff characters, including Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks. The house’s mascot is the badger, and its colors are yellow and black.
