J.K. Rowling revealed Gryffindor as her own Hogwarts house in the Harry Potter universe.
Gryffindor is one of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry's four houses. It was founded by Godric Gryffindor and is associated in the novels with courage, daring, nerve and chivalry.
Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are also members of Gryffindor, which makes the house especially prominent in the story. Its students are identified by scarlet and gold colors, and its emblem is a lion.
The Sorting Hat assigns students to houses according to their qualities and, in some cases, their choices. Rowling's own house is an authorial fact revealed outside the fictional narrative, so it should not be confused with a scene in which the Sorting Hat places Rowling herself at Hogwarts.
