Which Himalayan river joins the Indus near Nimmu in Ladakh?

The story behind the answer

The Zanskar River joins the Indus near Nimmu in Ladakh.

The river rises in the remote Zanskar region, where several high-altitude streams drain the surrounding mountains. It flows through deep gorges and past settlements before meeting the Indus at Nimmu, west of Leh.

During winter, parts of the river can freeze into a route known as the Chadar Trek. The frozen surface historically connected isolated communities, although modern trekking is affected by weather, safety rules, and changing conditions.

The Zanskar is distinct from the Shyok and Nubra rivers, which also belong to the wider Indus drainage system but join the Indus elsewhere. Its valley is recognized for dramatic cliffs, Buddhist monasteries, and some of the most remote terrain in the Indian Himalayas.
