Which Himalayan bird is the state bird of Uttarakhand, India?

The story behind the answer

The Himalayan monal is the Himalayan bird that serves as the state bird of Uttarakhand, India.

This colourful pheasant, also called the Impeyan monal, lives in mountain forests and alpine meadows across parts of the Himalayas. Males have iridescent plumage dominated by green, blue, purple and copper tones, while females are generally brown and mottled.

The species is also Nepal’s national bird, where it is known as the danphe; that fact is separate from its status as Uttarakhand’s state bird. Himalayan monals feed on roots, tubers, seeds, insects and other small invertebrates, often foraging by digging through soil.
