Zoji La is the Himalayan pass that connects the Kashmir Valley with Ladakh.
The pass lies in the Indian-administered union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, reaching about 3,528 metres above sea level. It forms a crucial link on the Srinagar–Leh route, crossing the main Himalayan range between Sonamarg and Dras.
Zoji La is strategically important because it is one of the few road corridors linking Ladakh with the rest of India. Heavy snow often closes the pass during winter, although major tunnel construction has been intended to provide more reliable year-round access.
The name is also written Zojila or Zoji Pass. It should not be confused with Nathu La, which links Sikkim and Tibet, or Rohtang Pass, which connects the Kullu and Lahaul areas. During the 1947–48 conflict, Indian forces recaptured the pass in an operation involving tanks, an unusual feat at such altitude.
