Which Harry Potter short story collection did J.K. Rowling publish as a charity book in 2008?

The story behind the answer

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was the Harry Potter short story collection J.K. Rowling published as a charity book in 2008.

The collection contains five wizarding fairy tales, including “The Tale of the Three Brothers,” which is central to the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Albus Dumbledore provides notes on each story in the fictional book's presentation.

Rowling wrote seven handwritten copies of the manuscript. Six were given to people closely connected with the Harry Potter books, while the seventh was auctioned in 2007 to raise money for charity.

A commercial edition followed in December 2008, with proceeds supporting The Children's High Level Group, the organization later renamed Lumos. The book is therefore both a fictional Hogwarts text and a real-world charitable publication.
