Which Harry Potter novel was split into two films, both based on J.K. Rowling’s story?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was split into two films.

The novel is the seventh and final book in J.K. Rowling’s original Harry Potter series. Warner Bros. adapted it as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, released in 2010, and Part 2, released in 2011. Together, the films cover Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s search for the remaining Horcruxes and the final confrontation with Voldemort.

The decision to divide the final book allowed the filmmakers to retain more of its plot and character material. The split also made the film series consist of eight movies even though the source series contains seven novels.

Other Harry Potter books received single-film adaptations, although their running times varied considerably. The two-part structure belongs specifically to Deathly Hallows, not to the earlier books Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, or Half-Blood Prince.
