Which Harry Potter novel is set partly during Harry’s godfather Sirius Black’s escape from Azkaban?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the Harry Potter novel centered partly on Sirius Black’s escape from Azkaban.

Published in 1999, the third novel opens with news that Sirius Black has escaped from the wizard prison of Azkaban. The Ministry of Magic believes he is dangerous and connected with Lord Voldemort, so Dementors are stationed around Hogwarts to protect against him.

As the story develops, Harry learns that Sirius is his godfather and that the public account of his past is incomplete. The book also introduces Professor Remus Lupin, explores the Marauders’ history, and features the time-turner plot involving Hermione.

The story is more focused on mystery and personal revelation than the first two novels. Its film adaptation, released in 2004, was directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
