Which Harry Potter novel by J.K. Rowling features the Triwizard Tournament?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire features the Triwizard Tournament in J.K. Rowling’s series.

Published in 2000, the fourth novel begins with Harry attending the Quidditch World Cup before returning to Hogwarts. The school hosts the dangerous international tournament, traditionally involving champions from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and Durmstrang Institute.

The tournament’s three tasks test the champions’ abilities in different environments. Harry is unexpectedly selected as a fourth champion, despite being under the required age and not entering his name himself. Cedric Diggory represents Hogwarts alongside him, while Fleur Delacour and Viktor Krum represent the visiting schools.

The novel is important to the wider story because it marks Lord Voldemort’s physical return and the death of Cedric Diggory. Its film adaptation, released in 2005, was directed by Mike Newell.
