Which Harry Potter companion book did J.K. Rowling write under the name Newt Scamander?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling wrote Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them under the fictional name Newt Scamander.

The companion book is presented as a Hogwarts textbook about magical creatures. Its fictional author, Newt Scamander, later became the central character of the Fantastic Beasts film series. The book was first published in 2001 alongside Quidditch Through the Ages as a charity edition supporting Comic Relief.

The original edition includes humorous notes supposedly written by Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Rowling later expanded the concept into screenplays for films beginning with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016. The companion book is distinct from that screenplay and from the film franchise, even though both use Newt Scamander and the subject of magical creatures.
