Hermione Granger is J.K. Rowling’s famous fictional heroine and Harry Potter’s close friend.
Hermione first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as a highly knowledgeable student who has recently started at Hogwarts. She becomes one of Harry’s two closest friends, alongside Ron Weasley, and the three are commonly known as the central trio.
Her intelligence, preparation and determination repeatedly help the group solve problems. She is also portrayed as an outspoken opponent of unfair treatment, including the mistreatment of house-elves and discrimination against witches and wizards from non-magical families.
Hermione is a Gryffindor student and later becomes a major participant in the struggle against Voldemort. Emma Watson played Hermione in the eight-film adaptation of the seven novels. The character’s name is pronounced differently from how some readers initially expect; the books include a scene that clarifies its pronunciation.
