J.K. Rowling said Ron Weasley was inspired partly by her childhood best friend Sean Harris.
Ron is Harry Potter’s close friend and one of the central members of the trio at Hogwarts, alongside Harry and Hermione Granger. Rowling has described Ron as a fictionalised version of aspects of Harris, particularly his role as a loyal friend and his sense of humour.
The resemblance does not mean Ron is a direct biography of Harris. Rowling combined personal inspiration with invented traits, magical circumstances, and the demands of the story. Ron’s family, fears, chess talent, and growth across the series belong to the fictional character.
Ron is the sixth child of Arthur and Molly Weasley and grows up in a large wizarding family. His friendship with Harry begins on the Hogwarts Express in the first novel and remains important throughout the seven-book series.
