Which Harry Potter book was the first in the series to be published simultaneously worldwide?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the first Harry Potter book published simultaneously worldwide. It appeared on 8 July 2000 at 12:01 a.m. in the United Kingdom, the United States, and several other markets. The coordinated release was known as “midnight madness” and reflected the series’ extraordinary demand.

The fourth novel is substantially longer than the first three and introduces the Triwizard Tournament, the Quidditch World Cup, and the return of Lord Voldemort to physical form. It also marks a major tonal shift from school adventure toward the darker conflict that dominates the final three books.

The publication date is often confused with the films. The film adaptation arrived in 2005, while the novel was published in 2000. Later books also received highly organized international launches, but Goblet of Fire was the first to use the simultaneous worldwide strategy on this scale.
