Which Harry Potter book was adapted into Rowling’s first film screenplay?
Answer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Answer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was the Harry Potter-related book adapted into J.K. Rowling’s first film screenplay. The screenplay became the 2016 film of the same title.
The original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a fictional Hogwarts textbook credited to Newt Scamander. Rowling published a charity edition in 2001, with proceeds supporting Comic Relief. The later screenplay used the textbook’s fictional author as the central character and expanded the setting beyond Britain to 1920s New York.
This was Rowling’s first produced screenplay, rather than an adaptation of one of the seven Harry Potter novels. The film launched a separate Fantastic Beasts film series and introduced Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, while The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a supplementary story collection.
