The Supremes had their first US Billboard Hot 100 number one with “Where Did Our Love Go” in 1964.
The song was written and produced by the Motown songwriting and production team Holland–Dozier–Holland. It became the group’s breakthrough commercial success after earlier singles had achieved more modest results.
“Where Did Our Love Go” was also the title track of The Supremes’ second studio album. The trio’s recording reached number one in August 1964 and helped establish Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson as major Motown stars.
A common mix-up is confusing this song with “Baby Love,” another Supremes chart-topper from 1964. “Baby Love” followed “Where Did Our Love Go” and became the group’s second consecutive US number one.
