Which Formula 1 driver won the most Monaco Grands Prix, taking six victories between 1987 and 1993?

The story behind the answer

Ayrton Senna won the most Monaco Grands Prix, taking six victories between 1987 and 1993.

Senna’s first Monaco victory came in 1987 with Lotus. He then won five times for McLaren in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993. His sequence made Monaco one of the clearest showcases of his qualifying speed, precision and control around the narrow street circuit.

The record is often associated with Graham Hill, who won Monaco five times during the 1960s and earned the nickname “Mr. Monaco.” Senna surpassed Hill’s total, but Hill remains the only driver to win both the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500 during that period of Formula 1 history.

Senna might have added another Monaco win in 1988, but he crashed while leading from pole. His six victories remain a landmark of the event’s history, where track position and concentration are especially important.
