Which Formula 1 driver won four consecutive World Drivers’ Championships from 2010 to 2013?

The story behind the answer

Sebastian Vettel won four consecutive Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championships from 2010 to 2013.

Vettel secured his first title with Red Bull Racing in 2010, becoming the youngest world champion at the time. He successfully defended the championship in 2011, 2012 and 2013, establishing Red Bull as the dominant team of that period.

The 2010 and 2012 championships were especially close. Vettel beat Fernando Alonso by four points in 2010 and by three points in 2012. In contrast, his 2011 and 2013 campaigns were much more commanding, with Vettel winning 11 races in 2011 and 13 in 2013.

Vettel’s four successive titles place him alongside Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher among drivers with at least four championships. The question is sometimes confused with the record for most consecutive titles: Vettel’s four matched the sequence later achieved by Lewis Hamilton from 2017 to 2020, while Schumacher won five straight from 2000 to 2004.
