Which Formula 1 driver holds the record for the most British Grand Prix victories?

The story behind the answer

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most British Grand Prix victories, with nine wins.

Hamilton won his first home race at Silverstone in 2008 while driving for McLaren. He later added victories with Mercedes, extending his record beyond the previous marks held by Jim Clark and Alain Prost. His ninth British Grand Prix win came in 2024.

The British Grand Prix has been held at several circuits, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Aintree. Most of Hamilton’s victories came at Silverstone, the event’s long-term home and one of Formula 1’s fastest circuits.

Hamilton’s record is specifically for the British Grand Prix, not every Formula 1 race held in Britain. The British Grand Prix and the European Grand Prix were separate events, even when both appeared on the calendar at British circuits.
