Which Formula 1 driver completed a record 19 consecutive podium finishes?

The story behind the answer

Michael Schumacher completed a record 19 consecutive Formula 1 podium finishes.

The streak began at the 2001 United States Grand Prix and continued through the 2002 Japanese Grand Prix. During this remarkable run, Schumacher never finished outside the top three, demonstrating the consistency of Ferrari’s dominant early-2000s package as well as his own racecraft.

The sequence crossed two seasons rather than occurring entirely in one championship year. Schumacher was already the 2001 World Champion when the streak began, and he secured the 2002 title much earlier than any previous driver.

Podium records count finishes of first, second or third. They do not count pole positions, fastest laps or sprint results, which are separate statistical categories. Schumacher’s record is therefore specifically about consecutive top-three Grand Prix finishes.
