Graham Hill became the first and only driver to complete motorsport’s unofficial Triple Crown by winning the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Hill won Monaco five times, taking victories in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968 and 1969. He won the Indianapolis 500 in 1966, driving a Lola-Ford for Mecom Racing. In 1972, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Henri Pescarolo in a Matra-Simca MS670.
The Triple Crown is not an official championship and has no single governing body. Its three races are nevertheless treated as major tests of versatility because they use different circuits, cars, race lengths and driving demands.
Hill’s achievement remains unique among drivers. Fernando Alonso has won two of the three events, while several other champions have won one or two, but no one has matched Hill’s complete set.
